Ruger M77 MK II Magnum
I was wondering what you seasoned big bore shooters think of the Ruger Magnum rifle. Any and all comments are welcomed.

Also, is it true this rifle will soon be offered in .458 Lott?

Thanks for your input.

I had one of the Ruger magnums in 416 Rigby. It was the most accurate rifle I've ever owned. My son once shot three shots into one hole with 350gr Barnes X handloads. I could get way under an inch with Federal Trophy bonded 400gr softs and solids and they hit they same point of impact.

I added a decelerator pad to mine which added a little length to the rifle. I used a 1.5X5 Leupold with the Ruger rings that came with it. The irons were dead on with the Federals. It's a nice rifle. I don't see how they can make it for the price they get on them.

I've heard tell they are going to be making it in 458 Lott but don't know for sure.

About the only thing that I didn't like was the small safety and the weight of the rife. Neither really gave me a problem though.

Regards,
Terry

I have one also in .416 Rigby and It's killed two Cape Buffalo as well as a host of other things. The .416 Rigby hits like the Hammer of Thor and is a great cartridge for the recoil it generates.
It is an extremely accurate rifle and balances reasonably well as is. The factory trigger stinks, but is easily replaced. I have long thought about rebarreling it for the 460 WBY as you could then have three down and one in the pipe in a much better made weopon than the WBY( great cartridges, lousy guns IMHO). It would be ideal for this. I suppose modifying a .375 or .458 to a .458 Ackley or Lott would also yield a pretty nice DGR for minimum cash outlay.-Rob

I really like mine. It is accurate (MOA or better), not too heavy, handles well, fits me like a glove, and has the most beautiful stock that I have seen on a production rifle in its price range. As usual, it needed its recoil pad replaced with a Decelorator and a bedding job, but I figure that is par for the course for most any production rifle. The trigger could be better; it is light enough, but there is more take-up than I care for. Still, for the relatively small amount I paid for it (compared to other rifles in the same caliber, .416 Rigby), I got quite a bit of rifle for my dollar.
I read the same story about the rifle coming out in .458 Lott, but it is not listed yet. If they do bring it out, I can see another 77 MK II Magnum in my future.
