Russell E. TaylorNone of you guys are into flintlocks???
I'm taking my Hawken to the Daniel Boone National Forest later this month for a deer hunt. My buddy and I are going "primitive" -- well, as much as living in 2002 will allow and within our budgets, anyway.
So... I swung by the local Gander Mountain to pick up some flints and a pan primer. I found one piddly little offering of flints, but they were what I needed so I grabbed them. I looked among all the nick-nacks for a pan primer... nada.
YOU GOTTA BE KIDDIN' ME?!
I looked some more. Not one gol-durn pan primer in the whole black powder section. They had "Knight" stuff and "Traditions" stuff... PLENTY of gadgets for you yuppie caplock guys... but not ONE GOL-DURN PAN PRIMER??????
Frankly, I felt just a weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee bit discriminated against. I mean, it's not like I'm going to call the commies at the ACLU or anything... but I definitely felt some measure of discrimination.
Caplocks are a passing fad and it's high time you youngsters realized it!
(To be honest, I'm surprised they even had flints.)
I'm glad I didn't bother looking for a cow's knee. I'm sure it would have been a waste of my time and some young clerk would have looked at me like I was an escaped felon or something if I'd asked him where they were.

HobieI shoot a .75 cal Brown Bess "carbine". For supplies of all sorts go to
Track of the Wolf. Better than Dixie Gun Works for the flintlock shooter. However, best beware, many toys are on the front page.

Kentucky NimrodWell...if you really are a die-hard flintlock shooter you'd make all that stuff instead of buying it. Or at least wait until the next rendevous and trade some beaver pelts for it...that and whiskey...

JackMDitto, but I haven't tried them all. Dixie's American flints aren't bad, but T/C flints don't last Atall.

JackMThe last ones I got were black, catalogue #7200, about 7-8 years ago. Maybe they've got better ones now.
