Gerhard.DelportSafari & Outdoor Dangerous Game Shoot - 01 September
The past weekend I worked as range officer on the 3rd DGS competion presented by Safari & Outdoor.
The competiton was held at the Pretoria Practical Shooting Club range about 30km out of Pretoria.
All in all around a 105 shooters competed.
Minimum caliber is 9.3 x 62
As a range officer I have the privelidge to see all the shooters in action at close range.
There were a few double rifles with the most impressive one an double build by H&H in 465 caliber.
5 stages with 6 rounds on each stage as well as a clay pigeon stage using double barrel shotguns.
Stage 1 - Double barrel
3 targets requiering two shots per target.
Start at the buff at the back, fire two shots, reload, fire two shots at the lion at 20m. Reload and fire 2 shots at a leopard on a swinger at 10m. Swinger disapear after appearing twice.
Stage 2 - Dangerous game
3 targets
Buff at 30m x 2 shots
Lion at 20m x 2 shots
Leopard at 10m x 2 shots
Shooter must reload once during the 6 shots
Stage 3 - Plains game
Blue Wildebees at 40m x 2 shots
Zebra at 35m x 2 shots

On shot number 5 the warthog target is activated and starts running either left or right.

2 shots per target, reload between targets
Stage 5 - Hippo
Target at 60m hippo to be engage over shooting sticks. Head shots only x 3 shots
Reload 3 rounds and engage charging hippo at 30m head shots only...
I only got to shoot after everybody els and had a lot of fun.
Asked someone to take a couple of photos while I shoot the Hippo stage with my 375
Getting instructions from the RO
Engaging the hippo at 60m
Reloading 3 rounds for the charging hippo
Engaging
Last shot
I need to shoot more from the sticks...
I will post a link from FB when pictures are added to the Safari and Outdoor FB page to give you guys an idea on the rest of the stages...

Bill PooleCOOL!!!!
I too would like to know where I can get those targets!
I run a similar shoot in Phoenix, AZ USA 2 or 3 times per year, next one is 30-sep.
http://arizona-rifleshooting.c...ifle-shoot-PRGC.htmlI have some reduced size targets from Safari Press and some full size from a can of spray paint. (Plenty of pics on the webpage)
My buffalo really does charge!

Gerhard.DelportThe best way to get hold of full size targets would be to contact Stefan Fouche at Safari and Outdoor
http://www.safariandoutdoor.co.za/contactusPlease tell him I reffered you to him.
I am sure he can send a couple of each target in the post...

338UserCongratulations to those who organised this event, It was great fun and very well organised to get 105 shooters through all the ranges in a day. Many thanks also to all the RO's who gave up their day to supervise the ranges.

Yes,
Its always a pleasure to work as an RO with one of these shoots (done so on all the S&O shoots)
I then get to see how a lot of big game calibers and rifles at work close up. What works and what not.
I received the stats and finished 12th over all.
Guess the 375H&H and I still need to get some work done during summer for the next competition in March 2013

PD999Just found this thread! Hope to set up something similar at Bisley, England, purely for big-bores.
A type of "Safari Challenge" similar to this, or along the lines of the Australian "Big-Bore DGR" competitions.
