p dog shooterPicked Up my new 416 Taylor today
Went to the smiths this morning. Shot it this after noon no groups just over crony
results 350 gr speer
65 gr 4064 2179
69 gr 4064 2279
71 gr 4064 2367
72 gr 4064 2403
73 gr 4064 2440
74 gr 4064 2465 seems a good increase in muzzle blast with some signs of pressure primer firing pin cratering. Backed off to the 73 gr load no cratering primers look great easy bolt lift.
Will load some more and get her out to the bench maybe tomorrow. But I am going yote hunting in the morning if I get back in time I'll shoot her for groups then other wise sunday afternoon if the weather holds.

Bwana-beI know they're pricey, but it always seemed to me the 370g North Fork was a good happy medium between velocity and weight for the Taylor.
Wonder what you could get her to do with those....

jeffeossomyself, if my tayor cracked 2400, there's where i would stop... 50-75 FPS is just pressure

Bwana-beTrue.
BTW, the 350g has a SD of ~.289, and the 270 is ~.305, compared to the traditional 400g's .330 SD.
The 370g is the same SD as the 300g .375" for reference.
Thing is, the NF's are a bit long for weight, so I'm really interested in how they'd fare.
If you got 2400, you'd be s^ittin' in tall cotton.

p dog shooterI am going to try some differant powders. Have some RL15 coming. I weigh it 8 3/4 lbs with scope. So I took it out of the stock glass bedded it added .5 lbs of lead. Should come right in at 9.5 loaded with sling. It weigh less then my 9lb 338.
When I am done with the bedding I figure groups on Monday. It is hard to really target them laying in the snow bank any way. I will have to shovel the bench out.

BWThe trick is hitting 2400fps with 400gr bullets.

But it sounds like you'll make it. My Taylor doesn't quite reach 2400fps unless I use the 370gr North Forks.
I'll practice with other bullets, but those North Forks are the only bullet I use for hunting in that rifle.
My favorite powder used to be RL-15, now it's H4895.

p dog shooterEvery thing I read is that a taylor is lucky to hit 2400 with 400 gr bullets. I plan on a good soild 2300 load for it.
I am sure the 25 in barrel will help.
