Recoil pad question
I'm having a 375 H&H restocked and was interested in hearing pros/cons of the various recoil pads out there now.

Thanks

I would put a limbsaver pad on any big bore. I put a limb saver on my 470NE Merkel and it is very managable now. The gunsmith talked me into putting a Kickeze pad on my Merkel in 500NE and it feels like a brick. I plan to take it back and have a limb saver put on it too.

Do a search under gunsmithing. Limbsavers have a nasty habit of disintegrating, especially on carpet. I will never use another. Decelerators work just as well and do not have the same "melting" problem Limbsavers do.

+1 on the Decelerator

+2 on the Decelerator (old english style) limbsavers are too sticky for me when mounting the rifle, catch to easily on my shirt or jacket.

I have several rifles with Decelerator pads and they work just fine. Limbsaver had a bad batch of pads that did literaly melt but they would replace those free if you called them. The new pads don't have that problem.

Decelerator is best looking for a classic rifle and works great. If a rifle recoil pad is to squishy it doesn't hold tight.

Decelerator. They come in brown or black. I have them on my 550 Gibbs and 577BME. They work.

They also sell the medium size in red if you are in to the classic look.

Interesting discussion on brands of recoil pads. Just food for thought, or perhaps another thread....remember the old arguments of recoil pad or not. Some people involved in big bore guns used to talk about the running start theory, That is, a soft pad would compress quickly and then momentum would catch up and recoil would supposedly be worse. Any thoughts or is that old argument just that?

Have used Decelerator, LimbSaver, KickEEze, etc.

I prefer the Decelerator overall for function, looks, wear, etc.
