Went out today and shot up my remaining ammo before I move! The picture is a 2 gallon water jug being destroyed by a .585 650gr woodleigh softpoint! I sure hope the 577 will be enough to stop a chargeing whitetail! [Big Grin]

Correct me if I am wrong, but is that not the famous "Rambo Rest Stop" near Knik Arm on the Glenallen Highway Northeast of Anchorage, about half way to Wasilla? It resembles a place I have whiled away some hours shooting old wrecks of various sorts.
Cheers!

Yo Diesel Dude- What kind of rifle are you using? I know that was a blast! The biggest caliber rifle I shot was an English best double in a 600 Nitro and I was dumb and numb enough to fire off [Big Grin] 10 rounds. I didn't have enough balls to use the low bench at the range so I shot it standing up. I'm glad I did as the concussion I got lasted about a week--thought it was euphoria. DagaRon,

Nope. Too many Americans complained. They didn't like the idea of people shooting too close to the highway and it was closed back in late '80s.

Roger,
Alas, the world famous Rambo Rest Stop is no more! Actually, I knew that, and lived through its demise when I was an Alaska resident. It was wishful thinking, hoping that maybe it had been revived.

Diesel Dude,
Is this other place more secluded, at least further off the road than Rambo Rest stop? Good luck, when you get gone to Texas. I spent six months bumping around San Antonio, TDY's when I was in the USAF, but can't help with the names of the shops and ranges, though there are some nice ones there. Don't forget to go tubing on the Gaudalupe River in New Braunfels, nearby, at your first opportunity. You will be centrally located for adventures from the Hill Country to Padre Island, Nuevo Laredo (leave Ray's pooch alone at the border), and the game farms, etc.

This particular place is out at the end of Knik road in Wasilla. Has gotten trashed really bad over the years! A couple of guys actually cleaned that place up,but no one seems to pick up after they are done shooting!
475Guy- I was shooting a 577 NE 3",built on a ruger #1! Lots of fun!

Great vaporization.
What a pig pen. No wonder the environmentalists are so successful in taking land away from shooters and hunters. We just lost a wonderful shooting area to the tree-sitter mentality. The companies are afraid to allow anyone to trespass for fear of incidents and bad press.
Shame.
