Overkill - here is a bullet mold for you.
Go to the link and click on .955 diameter bullets (mold #409a). The mold makes a bullet that is .955" diameter and weighs 3500 grains. If cast from pure lead, it should expand nicely on moose in the 1300 to 1500 fps range.

I wonder what rifle launches that slug.

Found the gun that shoots them. SSK made a 95 caliber 'rifle' from a modified 20mm Vulcan case. Here's the pic of the case http://www.sskindustries.com/cart_pics.html

And here is the info on the gun http://www.sskindustries.com/rifle.html . Look in the 'Bolt Action' area.

ps. Overkill, they don't make them anymore so don't even bother to ask them. :-)

I think SSK only made a couple of them. Sometimes you see dies for wildcat 20 mm calibers. Who uses these...1,000 yd. benchrest?

I'd be using them if I could get my hands on a Lahti 20mm rifle. Just the thing for those pesky groundhogs! I did get a chance to shoot one once, but the guy wanted $50/shot so I passed. But it was fun to watch others play with it.

No, 1kBR shooters don't use such extreme cases. Probably the most popular 1kBR round is the .300 Weatherby Improved. Beyond that, it's anyone's guess. My round in the 6.5 Gibbs (.270 WIN Wildcat). I'm looking into a 6.5 SAUM.

The action used for the .950 JDJ was made by McMillan. they made 8 of them and have no plans to make more. It can handle a full-length Vulcan case.

The McMillans tried a round they called the "Fat Mac". It was a cut-down and necked-down Vulcan using lathe-turned .510" projectiles. They had to run a reamer into the case to thin the walls so a new shoulder could be formed. Problem was, the cases split at the "step" where the reamer stopped after 3-4 firings. They halted the project because it was just too much trouble to form cases that could only be used twice.

I was at the FCSA website yesterday looking over the message boards. Some guy was asking about a suitable action for the Vulcan. He got a response from a guy who can build a shell holder once he gets his FFL. Sounds kinda cool, huh????
