Scope for Sako 375.. Safari Classic
Buying one. Getting it in next week.. Primary use-- buffalo (cape) Am thinking i want a 1.5 to 5 variable (or something in that range) Am also thinking I may want a quick detach mount so that i could use open sites in some situations. Thoughts and recommendations? Thanks!

Or VX III 1,75-6; I had one on my CZ 550 Classic Safari and it was nice; I changed it only because opportunity I had to buy a Schmidt&Bender Zenith 1,5-6 with IR (with Warne QD).

metric
A German 1,1-4x24 or 1,5-6x42 is far superior to a Leupold in terms of clarity and angle of sight.

This is the combination I killed my Leopard and Buffalo with. Now I would only use the iron sights for buffalo. But have added a 1.5 X 6 S&B for scoped rrequirements.

Leupold VX 1.5-5 with Talley QD Rings. For the price this is about as good as it gets.

Appreciate all the info guys. Can the Talley or Warne rings be mounted on the Sako in their Quick Detach format? In looking at their websites I can't find one that is listed for Sako. Maybe I'm overlooking the obvious. Thanks again.

I like the Euro scopes in the low powers. I had a 1.5-5 VxIII and switched it to a Kahles 1.5-6 with Ill ret. These are both in Talley QR but can't imagine a situation where the irons would have any advantage over the Kahles when set on 1.5X.

Putting a 1.5 - 6 x 24 Leupold VX7 on my Sako .375 .

The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood.

For reasonable price on a 'plains rifle', the Leuppy 2.5-8 is hard to beat. However, I currently use the Nikon Monarch 2-8 on a 416 Rigby because the low setting is a true 2.0, not 2.6. and the eye-relief is a good, but minimum, 4.0-3.8" on a 416 loaded 'hot'.

For heavier rifles you might consider the 1.5-5 type scopes, though always check the full range of eye-relief. You don't want to go under 4".

Both Talley and Warne rings are great. I do all of my hunting with scopes. I don't think Quick release are advisable if you have a good scope at the 1-2 power range and practice with it. Removing the scope may slow down your target acquisition unless you are practiced with it. In a dangerous game situation, it is best to stay with what you are comfortable and practiced.

My .375s are second rifles on my trips, for plains game and dangerous game backup. Therefore, they all have 2.5x8 Leupolds. My dangerous game rifles (404, 416, 458) all carry 1.5 x5 Leupolds. All have talley QD rings. I am presently trying Leupolds new R series(30mm tube) illuminated scope and putting a 1.25x4 on my .458 Lott

SWFA has Talley Bases listed for the Sako I, II, III and 85 for 39.95 per set. I didn't look but I sure they also sell the rings.
