I hope everybody that is considering buying one of the RUMs takes this into consideration. Remington has more orphans out there than everybody else. I think they guaranteed failure in the 416 Rem when they priced the ammo two or three times as high as the 375.

Mac, I agree with you big-time!

The Model 700 was basically built around circa-1948 mass-production technology, and in this modern era of CNC machinery, etc., it's entirely feasible for them to develop a new and better bolt action, perhaps one like the old Model 720. I'm sure they'd say that any new high-end rifle would be cost-prohibitive to develop, and may that really and truly is the case.

Just FYI:
When I checked their web site today, MidwayUSA has .416 Remington brass on sale< !--color-->. Not much off their regular price, though. I don't own a .416 Rem so I don't know if brass has been hard to get in the past or not. But, but from I've read on here, maybe now would be a good time to stock up.

I would like a new version of the model 30, but with a safety on the bolt shroud and good gas handling characteristics. Also, a straight bolt handle please.

Remington is notorious for doing stupid things like that, so it doesn't surprize me! What they should do is keep the 416 Rem Mag ammo, and get rid of the junk Mod 700!

COOL , I haven't bought a new 870, but own a couple that are 25 years old, and judging from them, there isn't a better working pump shotgun made! They aren't pritty, but work like a charm, if mine are any indication. I have heard some grumbling about the newer ones however, but I don't know what the complaints pertain to, but my guess would be, quality control rubbing against the profit margin! Maybe someone here can shed some light on this to be fact or fiction!

It seems someone needs to point out that it's not up to Remington to "drop" the 416 Rem. Mag.

This isn't early 20th century England where there were "propietary" cartridges. The market will drop it or keep it going.

Remington could stop making ammo and rifles for it and hardly anyone who actually uses a 416 would notice. There are plenty of other cartridge companies making ammo and brass, and I don't know too many hunters or PH's who are looking for a new shiny stocked BDL big bore.

I have a ton of 416 Rem brass, but if Remington quits makeing it, I will simply rebarrel and change my 416 to a 404 and Remington can stick it where the sun don't shine..

I am still mad about the 5MM Rem. which I still own and cannot afford to shoot as ammo is collectors stuff..The reanson I don toss it or at least sell it? The litter bugger shoots 5 shot under a nickle at 100 yards off a bench and it is just amazing..I shot a rockchuck running flat out at 100 yards in my pasture at 100 yards with it about a week or so ago, and one of my horded cartridges...now I have 32 rounds.....and those Rem bastards won't make a run of ammo, and were plumb rude when I asked them why they would sell me a gun and stop makeing ammo..said they weren't in the business to go broke, I said bet me! and hung up...
