Kevin expressed his dislike of brakes and we discussed how my using one affected my hunt...

I used ESPs and my PH simply plugged his ears...I assured him it didn't negatively affect me or my hunting party...

I assured Kevin that it was very possible to hunt with an unbraked 600 OK and that several AR members had done so. To see how it affected my shooting Kevin had me film and send him copies of me timing myself on the zim ph shooting test with and wo the brake...his concern was recovery time between shots...

My POI changes significatly at 100 yards wo the brake but for the close ranges of this test it didn't make much of a difference...

I was nominally faster with the brake but concidentally more accurate wo it...

To each his own I guess as far as brakes go 600 is pretty loud even wo one...actually building my next one wo one...was cool to get to correpond with Kevin Robertson though...

600 OK is a serious step up from 505 Gibbs and I think Kevin is just a Gibbs fan...

thanks for the discussion on muzzle brakes.

Rob seems to think that they can be built to without increasing noise, and maybe they can, but most of my reading suggests otherwise. Perhaps he can help us out with more details about building a quieter brake. Maybe it matters where one is standing and perhaps some brakes allow for the shooter to be in a non-increase sound zone?

Myself, I will probably go without one since I will operate way down at the 505 Gibbs level (500AccR, 6500 ftlb) and haven't seen any need with 'normal' pressure 416Rigby loads (6200 ft lbs).

Debate...

I'm sure the direction of the ports, shape, and how they are cut make a difference in noise and effectiveness of the brake and RGB would know...

The main reason I hunted with mine is that I really hadn't practiced wo it and right b4 my hunt I noticed a severe POI shift wo the brake...

I wasn't about to chane anything right b4 my hunt and informed my ph well in advance I'd be using a brake and had zero issues whatsoever...

With that being said I'm trying to Go sans mb on my next big bore and just build a heavier rifle...
