I've been playing with my new M70 and found that the iron sights are just too low to use comfortably. I was already planning on scoping it with either a 1-5X or maybe even a 2-7X Leupold. Are the VXIII scopes in 1-5X and 1.175-6X long enough in the body so that I can use a set Talley quick release mounts and rings.

I think you might have to have the extended front base for the .375? I know that some have had issues with their Safari Express rifles, me included. I mounted a Tasco Titan on 1.5-6 42mm on mine. I think the Leupold will fit just fine, but no first hand knowledge.

I have a 1.75X6E Leupold in Talley Q.D.s on my Model 70, 375. No problems what-so-ever. I've had this setup for 7 or 8 years now. I always remove the scope from the rifle when traveling with it, and have never had to change the scope settings after putting it back on the rifle.

I have a 1-4 leupold on my .375 cz....I would be just as happy with a 2-7 leupold, as I own a .416 as well the 2-7 would possibly make the .375 a tad more versatile.

I HAD a Leupy 1 1/2 - 5X on my .375, but went up to the 2-7X Burris compact to get a little more view at distance. THe .375 is not just an "up close and personal" range type firearm. At 250-300yds the 7X just makes it a little easier.

I can't address the spacing problem becasue I use a G&H takedown mount for the scope.

I put a Leupold 1.5x5 on mine years ago and left it there. Adimittedly the longest shot I ever took with it was about 125 yards and I usually leave the setting on 'low' so I can't claim to be any kind of expert on distance shooting. Still, 5X is probably more magnification than I need being more the sneaky than the sniper sort. I guess you have to decide on your hunting style as well as what will stand up to the rather moderate recoil of the .375 . . . unless you were silly enough to get a flyweight!
