Most modern brass is very strong, with the proper thickness
head.The Bell brass and Bertram's that I have here,is as thick or thicker
as Weatherby cases I have.One other wasn't. Anyone wanting to do this, I will check cases for them or show them how.
I used a 32 in barrel. 60k pressures, longer case, in
bolt action, to get 12,000 ft lbs. Most folks won't run max, as the gun has to be real heavy to soak up recoil.At moderate pressures it still will have 8000 ft lbs.Like
600 gr at 2450 fps.And still will get 11,000 fps in
Ruger #1 and the final length of 3.6 in,I am setting,If Horneber builds any it will be strong enough.In a rimmed case; as long as it isn't balloon head built, or isn't as thin as the one thin one I have here, they
will hold high pressures.And at moderate loadings, brass will last dozens of rounds if your using ball powder.Ed.

700 nitroi am really thinking about rebarrling mine i also have a 458 lott #1 and am really considering turing it into a 500 a-square 600 grain bullet at 2450 or possibly 500 jeffery or 505 gibbs havnt desided but am leaning twords the 1 square since brass is easy to get and it has plenty of power

TJCHi Guys, I recently found a nice Ruger #1 458 WM at a price too good to pass up. Now I am thinking about rebarreling to a different caliber. Maybe a 470 Nitro Express or ??? I already have a #1 in 458 Lott. Any ideas??

700 nitropc that is a good idea having a rim. i was thinking about that and figured if your going to use the gun for dg maybe it would be a good idea to have a nice low pressure rimed case like the 500. of course the 500 could be loaded up a little more in the ruger 1#

GrandpasezHow about my wildcat 510 HE, It has a rim and is 3.6 inches
long,Great for better energy, at lower pressure, and can
hotrod in a strong action like Ruger #1 if you want.
Will get 600 gr bullet close to 3000 fps at the 3.6 in length.Has been tested in my bolt action.You only have to get 475 #2 NE brass and expand it to .510. I was going to retire the cartridge,as the bolt action is going to be a long 550 wildcat, but I keep seeing folks wanting to do
different chamberings with # 1's, so I will get one as soon as possible and use the brass I have made.Anyone
interested and gets brass, I will form cases for the 510HE
for you.Cost will be minimal.Here is a picture,first is
a 458 Win for comparison, Second 510 HE, Third my little
wildcat 458 HE...Ed.

GrandpasezI reground a taper reamer while I was experimenting,
to cut the chamber proper, then used a 50 cal throating
reamer to do the rest.I have specs all set up,
and on paper in a large scale, esy to understand, so that I
could get a print to a reamer maker. I know these
chamber measurements work with the case as designed..
IE, cases fire, extract, and resize back to specs,
without overworking brass.
I am only 2 hrs away from Dave Manson here in Michigan.And if anyone wants to do this I will do legwork
here to get it done right.Ed.

GeorgeS.500/.416 Krieghoff. It's rimmed, it gives good ballistics, and it can be used for plains game.

GrandpasezDave-If it is 50-140 Sharps it is .565 at base and 3.25 in long, if it is the 50- 140 Winchester it is .551 at base and 3.25 in long.It's probably Sharps case SSK is using.
My 510 HE is .577 diameter at base and 3.6 in long.
My rim and Sharps rim are the same diameter.Win smaller.Ed.

Jirihubel458: Your own line of cartridges is very interesting, but I am curious where to get .475 #2 brass. Also what is estimated working pressure of that monster pushing 600gr at 3000fps and what barrel length was used, because .475# was "superlowpressure" cartridge so I don't expect any strong brass if any . . .
