Rate of twist 10.75x68
Could anyone advise me on the twist rate of the pre war German sporting Mausers in 10.75x68?
Thanks, Bob

I had no idea it was that slow. I am having a 10.75 built and figured on 1 in 12 or 14. Thanks again for the info. Bob

Thanks for the timely responses. Would the 1 in 16.5 do for the heavier 400 gr bullets used in the .404? Bob

My 10.75x68 is a Lother/Walther barrel and its a 1x16 twist, 423 barrel and it shoot 350 and 400 gr. bullets to the same POI...I like the 350 gr. monolithics at 2350 FPS but I can get a bit more if I want to...The 400 gr. Woodlieghs run out at 2100 and again I think you can get a bit more, but thats where mine shoot best...

It has been brought to my attention that my Lothar Walther barrel is 1x14 not 1x16, thank you Mr. Northfork...I shall claim a typo error, not a mistake on my part thank you! shame beer sofa

Ray, 1 in 14 doesn't surprise me. I should think it would be just right for the 400's. I had my 9.3x64 done with 1 in 12 anticipating using 300/320gr bullets. Thanks again, Bob

My LW with a 1x14 is super accurate with every bullet weight I have tried..I would not change it at all, and its what I have always used in all my 404 Jefferys..

FWIW - The Modern Gunsmith by James Howe lists the 10.75x68 Mauser barrel and chamber information. I don't have my copy handy at the moment however. Frowner
