Has anyone tried one yet?

What's this "Bad boy" rifle you're talking about?

See rifle at the bottom of the page for the link below. I'm told it is built on the "Santa Barbara Mauser" action.

Looks like a pretty sweet setup, haven't shot one though. Wouldn't mind one in the .458 Lott! Cool

Well, I just got an email from a person I trust and he indicated that the "Santa Barbara" actions have a spotted history.

Really? You know I've heard that too but I didn't trust the guy I was speaking too. I guess I wouldn't trust it than if that's the word out.

metalsmith,

I believe the quote is actually "all skill counts for nothing when an angel pisses in the touchhole of your musket". It's because my g-grandfather mentioned it to me about a million times growing up.
He was old country german.

Sir, I apologize for that, I'll change it soon. I read that quote here at my USMC station and thought it was wonderful. Thank you for correcting me!

I hope the pictured rifle isn't the "Santa Barbara" action they say it comes with because, that one is definately a 98 military, if you notice the thumb cut in thee left side rail, not to mention the non-commercial bolt shroud.

The email I received from the company yesterday said that it was a Santa Barbara action.

I have to agree with Masterifleman. That does look like a military 98. Not only the thumb cut and bolt shroud, but you can see the the clip guide on the receiver. The Santa Barbara actions I have seen look much like the Interarms/Charles Daly/Rem 798 actions.

The comments here make me wonder how much the guy selling them really knows about them . . . ???

It's not uncommon to build and photograph a prototype custom gun on one type of Mauser and advertise that subsequent guns be built on another maker's action. I, for one, would much rather have a decent military action than a Santa Barbara anyway.

Me too! For ~$1K, one could do better, I think.
