500 A-Square reloading
I was just checking on dies for my 500 A-Square and noticed RCBS carries neck reaming dies. The only way I've seen 500AS made is to neck-up 460 Weatherby brass over a .510 expander, which means no neck reaming needed. What brass can be necked-down to form a 500AS thus requiring neck reaming?

What is the RCBS part number?

Col K,

Whenever you neck up then then part of the shoulder of the samller calibre forms the bottom part of the neck on the necked up calibre and brass in the shoulder is generally thicker than the neck.

Thus the very bottom of the 500 A2 neck will be slightly thicher than normas it made from the shoulder are of the 460.

I would not expect this to be a practical problem in a hunting style rifle as I have necked up 378 Wby to 416 Wby and also 416 Wby to 460 Wby and with out problems. I have also necked up 378 cases to 416 then necked them to 460.

In addition I think the 500 A2 has a short neck as it is an improved 460 and so the dough nut that forms (on the bottom of the 500 A2 neck) on necking the 460 to 500 will be lost when the 500 A2s are fireformed.

HTH.

BeLL .378 Weatherby cylindrical, which is what I neck down and trim to form my .500 A-Square brass. But I do not neck ream, for the simple reason that I don't need to.
