405 Winchester with Premium Bullets

Tested the 405 a few weeks ago with N133 and four of the best 300 grain bullets I have seen. They were gifted by one of my generous YouTube subscribers.

Tested where the North Fork soft point, The Northfork solid, the Barnes TSX bullet and the good old Woodleigh which I have sailed through 600 pound Mountain caribou here in the Yukon.

Media used was 6' of water backed by alternating layers of wet and dry hard packed paper and catalogues. This is a tough media and will generally show any weakness in bullet construction.

Performance was similar except for the solid which penetrated 26', made great wound channels and for all I know is still going though Grey Mountain probably stopped it.

The X bullet may have had just a little bit less initial impact but it also penetrated slightly better and had better 2nd half wound channels.

Thanks for the video.
And you are correct, the NF solid may have been too slow as I load mine to 2250 fps and they are accurate and shoot through most anything.

Makes sense as I had two shots close together and the other 4" away. Might have been under-stabalized at slow speed.

Ive used the North Fork on Buffalo and Hippo,seen it used on one elephant, its performance was outstanding in each case..If I had to hunt the world with only one bullet in calibers 284 on up to 600 NE. it would be a North Fork cup point if available...

I would like to size some of the Woodliegh 410 grain .416 bullets I have to .411-they might do awesome at 2000 fps.I know that bust the hell out of stuff at 2400 out of my.416 rem mag .They should feed like butter as round as they are !

This is really good info that I will keep for future reference.

I have a Ruger No.1 in 405 that I haven't shot much at all.

Think it's time to get 'er out the safe and dust 'er off!

The result of your test tell me there isn't a nickel worth of difference in them, and they all would deliver the punch on whatever you shoot with them..Welcome to todays bullets where the main difference in most of them is in the mind of the beholder...Kudos to the bullet makers of today...
