Double Barrel Regulation
How is a double barreled rifle regulated? IS it different if the gun is a SXS or OXU?

No, same process. A wedge is moved out or in between the muzzles in order to push apart or pull the barrels together. The wedge is then soldered and the rifle test fired. It's an empirical method (there's no way around it, no matter the sales talk) that has to be repeated ? times before both barrels shoot together. I'ts time consuming, demands skilled handwork and impacts on the price ticket.

Todd E:

This question appears to be a cheap trick to get MacD37 back to the forum to answer questions on regulating doubles.

Hopefully it will work.

Will,

That was kind of the plan. I figured that we might actually educate some people in the meantime on double rifle terms and vocabulary.

He must truly be upset at me; however, as even after all these posts he has remained quiet!

Todd,
I don't know if you have read Mac's post about his daughter's illness. He is cutting back on his online time in order to help deal with her condition.
Hope this helps?

Rusty,

Thanks for the information. I was not aware of his daughters illness. I hope she is doing better.

Todd,
Having built a couple of doubles with the help of a few good men I can basically fill in for Mac...

After you have the barrels on the chambers and ready to shoot you place a wedge ( you have various sizes of wedges )at the muzzle and wire the barrels together and shoot them and the procession of wedges and movement combinations begins and you keep carefull notes of where the gun shoots in all these different positions. the barrels are soldered in each position. When it all comes together and it is shooting correctly. solder the barrels and rib all together and file in the sights for the owner...

Very basic, but thats about the size of it...
