470CapstickA2470 A-Square monolithic solid vs. oil field equipment
OK, after seeing all the stuff you guys shoot, I figured I'd try my 470 capstick versus an iron pipe cap.... sorry about the size of the pics.... I guess bullet weight retention is about 30%, I'll cut it open soon to see more detail... enjoy
bullet1bullet2bullet3bullet4files have been shrunk
and yeah, I pulled the shot.... got a nice knot on my forehead from the zeiss...

KennethIThat's cool. I too find it surprising it did that. The times I have shot steel with a solid it blew up and left a shallow, bright crater. What was the velocity?

470CapstickA2I haven't chrono'd the loads yet... Asquare says 2500 fps, the shot was at 40yds from my Hannibal rifle. It looks like the bullet started to tumble, probably from the rounded edge it hit... I'm wondering if there are chunks of the bullet inside the pipe, or if it just melted off against the surface...

470 MbogoI think you will find that the velocity is more likely to be in the mid 2300"s.
Take good care,
Dave

Big Bore Boar HunterThere is something reassuring that the solids held up to hardened steel. Also nice to know that now matter what charges you you can lay it to rest, even if it is a charging oil derrek. Thanks for sharing pics...
