hello to all!
i have that usual feed problem with my cz 550 .458 W M.
i remember reading about how i can fix it by my self in this forum but i cant find it eny more.

last hunting season i hadto make a follow up shot but cz did not feed proper ihad to get my eye´s of the bull moose and "help" the round with my finger to chamber.

and now the season is near and i wantto fix it.

I had one years ago that was solved by converting to 458Lott. My issue was with the lead nose of Winchester factory loads catching the entrance to the chamber. Was a pity as the 510gr soft is brilliant on soft skinned game. Simplest solution was changing to the 500gr Woodleigh (less exposed lead to catch), I then converted to Lott and that cured it permanently. Also had the same issue with a Zastava 458WM ... that one was fed 480gr Woodleigh's and was happy. But the Winchester soft was a disaster in the feeding department from both 'out of the box' rifles.

These guys do about 1/2 thier business (well a lott) fixing, modifying, upgrading or building on the CZ 550.

You could call, maybe due to your distance they might advise you on the procedure. Might be just a touch metal removed so bullet points up more? Perhaps you can order a spare magazine to play with. The 458 Lott can have problems too. Mine did.

EDIT:

NOW, I remember. The field fix, was to put a shim or block (folded busines card) in the front of the magazine to keep the rounds to rear of the magazine. then when the round pops up it feed from the rear, angles up more, and will not hangup on the feed ramp.

Just curious... what bullets are you shooting? Is it factory ammo or handloads?

Two problems with the 550 if it is .458 win.

a) Magazine box is too long for the round- easily solved by converting to a .458 Lott

b) Common problem to all CZ 559's- there is often a slight lip between the front of the magazine box and the feed ramp- soft nosed bullets particularly catch on the slight lip and ....

nothing some plastic steel will not fix... Or which ever gun smith lott's it for you will tydie that up as part of the job. I know of a top SA gunsmith moved to norway...but cannot offer ideas for finland.

You know..in the "Gunsmithing "section I kinda tried to cover the bases on feeding problems with bolt actions...Sure I missed something, but folks tell me it helped...might look it over...plenty of photos.....see "Making it feed"

i shoot my ovn hand loads from hornady 350gr to 400 gr ihave few factory rouds it think 5 win rounds 3federal rouds and 18norma txp rouds. the 350gr rn hornady is a good bullet for moose there in finland and tha 400gr flatnose bullet is a good bush bullet it does not chanse direction when hitting a bush.


the biggest feed problem is with the 400gr flatnose and tha win factory loads

350gr feeds with out eny problem att all and the norma txp as well
