it takes me two months to post..
Hey peoples. I've been reading these threads for a couple months now, but i decided to finallly post cause one question still plaques me..

when it comes down to xxl game, im not sure weither id be better off with a penatrating round or a hole blowing round.. ive seen advocates of both, but i wanna know what you peoples think.

i look foward to owning a big bore rifle soon.. (unfortunately in illinois you cannot legally even touch a gun until youre 18, dumb, eh? theres a bunch of other crazy gun lawas here, too.. thanks brady bill)..

anyways, thanks for any advice..

A combination of the two is really what you're looking for. The projectile must penetrate deep enough to get to the animals' important internal organs, and hopefully expand enough to cause more damage then just a solid. Depending on the size of the game, you will end up at one end or the other of this scale (that is, more expansion less penetration, or more penetration, less expansion). FWIW - Dan

Depends as Dan said on the game, if I shoot foxes I want an explosive bullet that stay's in the animal. Anything bigger and I like a decent hole out the other side.

What do you suggest then, for a novice?

i can understand why youd want to leave a fatal wound, but whats the importance of an exit wound?

Blood trail if you need to follow up a wounded animal.
