Big Wonderful Wyoming1.7-10x42 Swarovski on a 416?
What do you think?

pagosawingnutI think it would be a fine choice. The .416 is capable of taking game a lot further than we realize and the extra magnification would come in handy. My .416's wear 2.5 x 8 powers and there are times I wish for more.

rodellMy only concern would be speed of acquisition if the game is very close or very dangerous.
Nothing wrong at all with the magnification and certainly not Swarovski scopes.

Many people can no longer see the irons clearly and need (or prefer) a scope. I think that would be a non issue if the rifle was always carried with the scope turned down. If you need more magnification, then the game is usually far enough away that you have a minute to crank the scope up and 10x might be handy.

Big Wonderful WyomingThanks!
I was thinking the same thing.
Would make a hell of a 250 yard Eland rifle with the Barnes TSX 350 grainers.

BiebsIt would be about perfect.

NavalukI started with scopes and lucked out being taught to shoot with both eyes open. That scope at 1.7 power would be much faster than irons for me at close range, unless it's raining very hard.

Big Wonderful WyomingI actually can't see very well. Even with my glasses on and a quality prescription.
I am horrible at driving in town, the highway I am fine.
Stop lights are a real problem with me. Something has changed in my eyes and brain within the past 2 or 3 years, and I am having a lot of problems with it.

crbutlerI have the illuminated #4 version on my .416 Rigby.
Works great.
I have had no trouble at all sorting things out at short range with it, and going up to 10X, its no problem to shoot at 300 yards.
