50 Calshtr425 WR Loads
Recently rediscovered some old Barnes 410 gr 425 WR bullets I had hidden away decades ago. They were sold by Colorado Custom Bullets and appear to be formed from copper tubing. I have both softs and solids. My note in the box shows a load of Fed 215 mag primer and 74 gr of Varget or IMR 4064,(I have both). How does this look considering modern components? The rifle is a 1920-30 WR bolt gun and brass is Bell and formed from 375 RUM. Thanks.

theback40Your RUM brass would likely have a little less capacity then original brass. You are taking the base section of a very high intensity cartridge.
I think your powder choices are good, just start low enough to stay out of trouble.
I built an 11.2x60 shuler. I make cases from 458 win brass. They have 4 grains less capacity then my one original case I have.
58 grns of 3031 and a 400 grn bullet easily does 2100 fps. I stopped there as that is plenty good enough. You have a fair bit more case in the .425.

AtkinsonFavorite loads for the .425 WR: 24" barrrel
410 gr. 210 FC
1. 69 grs H4895 2320 fps
2. 75 grs/ RL-17 2256 FPS
3. 85 grs RL-19 22145
4. 72 grs. IMR-4831 2280
5. 81 grs. H4350 2277 fps.
My best loads in an older original gun, a favorite of mine, later rebored to a 458 win as brass became impossible to come by..strange enough it fed the 458s with the clips with just a tad of fitting??? Know some that modification didn't work for. Keesey Kimball did mine..

50 CalshtrThanks for the replies, gives me a great place to start. Need to get this one down to the range, if nothing else but to show the locals what a real rifle looks like, ie, no black plastic. Have a great day and thanks again!

AtkinsonIts a geat DG caliber, and feeds like poop thu a goose original as I recall rebated cases. its been more than 60 years I own an original I paid $175. for in nice condition but well used..Got 5 boxes of brass and a sack full of solids..Shot a few deer with it...Had another in 425 and its the one I converted to a 458 Win some 30 years, it worked slick with out changes..both were WR..beautiful guns and all one would ever need of DG..
