billinthewild.458 Lott handloads
Recommendations for .458 Lott handloads using the Barnes 450 grain TS would be appreciated.
Does it make sense to put a recoil reducer in the butt stock? And if so, what would you recommend?
Thanks

Paul HI haven't tried the 450 TSX, but did run some old style 450 X's in my first 458 Lott. The problem with the bullet is it is mega long! Comparing a 500 gr hornady to a 450 barnes, the 450 barnes shrinks the powder capacity to that of a 458 win mag.
In my tests, RL 7 was too fast, and RL 15 was too slow. I don't know what the ideal powder would be, I guess something medium fast and dense.
All I can offer you is information on the 500 grain TSX and Banded Solids, in the 458Lott..
I use H4895..Barnes Manual has data on this...you can call them ...if you need in a hurry I can give you the min./max in the 450grain "X" from the Barnes manual..

Hodgdon recommends 76 grains of H4895 as a start. I'll give that a try. Thanks. My rifle is a BRNO 602 and I will have to check over all length to see how that goes with that bullet. not
Barnes also list 76grains of H4895 as a starting load for the 450 grain standard "X"...velocity they noted (26"barrel) is 2302fps for 76grains H-4895....max. velocity listed is 2453fps with standard 450grain "X" and H-4895.
My rifle was a CZ550 in 458 Lott...this rifle had a bit of freebore...so I was able to seat to an OAL that worked fine...even with the 500grain TSX and Banded Solids...not sure about 602s
