Mornin gents,
I had a 416 Taylor built and as per my usual practice, started acquiring components. I bought NFs from Mike Brady, Noslers, TBSS and now Horns DGS. I've never been a Barnes man! I know one of the regulars loves the NF. I'll be testing all of them for accuracy and penetration. Is there any REAL difference in on game performance?

Yes there is a difference in performance. But don't bet on being able to see it in the field.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.
Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

Other than Woodleighs, what is a good solid that is more readily available? In calibers .416 and .458 for example.

dirklawyerHornady has great solids for the money and they are readily available.

LabmanYou mentioned that you don't like Barnes bullets, but I've had nothing but good luck with their 400 Gr. Banded solid in my 416 Rigby. Keeps all shots touching at 100 yds. and gave great penetration on an elephant.

Dirk, I am working up a solids load for my 10.75x68. Have you used the Hornady DGS on game? Waiting on Todd and Rube to make me up some monometal bullets, but thought I would try some Hornadys and see how my rifle likes them. Bob

If I may ask, what don't you like about Barns?
All that is needed for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing!!

eezridrI assume you may be trying a 350 gr Mono in the NF or Barnes? There is not allot of case capacity left in a 416 Taylor using a 400 gr Mono.
