Who to do CZ550 work?
Hello everyone!

My local shop has a CZ-500 Safari Magnum in .458 Winchester for a pretty good price. I was thinking of picking it up; but I know they need some minor work.

So: who to send it to to have the stock bedded and (possibly) rechambered for the .458 Lott?

Or, skip it, and wait for the American CZ-550 Safari? I've heard very little about that thing; will there be a .458 Lott version?

One last thing: If I wanted to get one and convert it to .460 Weatherby (just for fun, the Lott's for the "real" work), what would be the best base caliber?

Thanks for any help!

Your profile is a little scarce, where are you located? That will help with recommendations on which smith to use.

John Ricks seems to have quite a bit of experience with the 550 and the Lott, he has a sight at http://home.earthlink.net/~rifles

I have not had him do any work for me but I have talked to him via e-mail and found him to be not only friendly, but skilled and reasonably priced.

Gotta go fill that in

I'm in NE Indiana right now...which sucks. I hate snow!
I'm not to concerned about where I have to ship it; as long as the works good!

I've heard about John Ricks before...I'll check him out...

I believe Jim Brockman works on them, but I don't have any experience with him.

Also, Ed Plummer at American Hunting Rifles in Montana specializes in the cz550.

Thanks for the links everyone! I'll be talking to quite a few people soon, it looks like!

Does anyone have any info about that CZ550 American Safari Magnum?

About the 460 conversion, I'd start with the 416 Rigby, since it'd be a basic rebarrel, no feeding issues, but then I'd also use a beltless case, e.g., Rigby or Dakota.
Or, I might trip on something and accidently end up with a 470 Mbogo. Watch your step!

I have a .458 Lott on a cz 550 .458 win mag, and love the thing. If you can't hang out go ahead find a smith and get it done on a cz 550 .458.
