ab_bentley460 Weatherby
I inherited an Interarms Mark X Mauser in .460 Bee. Never had anything this big prior. Anyway onto the meat. It doesn't have the second lug on the barrel but should it? The smith who build it said he built it 40yrs ago and shot it once, the stock didn't have cross bolts or any re-enforcement. In the deal I also received 200 NIB 40yr old vintage 460W cases and a 500/460 Weatherby reamer.

Ouch!
Adam,
All depends on what you want to spend on it and what you want to use it for. Here goes some things you may want to consider...
1) Send it to a competent gunsmith that specialises in Big bores. To make sure the stock is suitably reinforced.
2) Make sure it the correct weight - nothing under 10 Pounds.
3) Stock fits and isn't too short - bloody noses and or watering eyes are not enjoyable
4) Have it MAGNA PORTED - This is not as aggressive as a full on break but does tame it it down a bit..
Not sure what action its built on.
Keep the loads sensible 2300-2450 with a 500gr or go slightly lighter 450gr.
Great round with a bad reputation from poor bullets and poorly suited rifle design.. (so the experts say)
All the best

ab_bentleyI figure it needs the second recoil lug. My 375HH has one so this needs one. I pulled the barrel and cleaned the action, repolished and blued the barrel. I have the blank ready for the stock and will just go hog wild on the thing with all thread. I just wasn't sure what this thing needed, I'm actually scared to shoot it......
I'll post pics of the stock progress when it starts.
Thanks again.

ab_bentleyI blued the barrel yesterday, and am in the process of convincing my friend to TIG a second lug on and bolt handle (he is well qualified). After that it's onto stocking and finish.
