Xmas shoot
Today I enjoyed another fantastic Christmas with friends and family. As is our tradition, after breakfast and presents, the "guys" go out for a little shooting before dinner.

Our time was a little sparse so we cut back the variety of firearms a little. Shotguns for clays, a .38, .44 mag, .45 ACP, .45 Colt, an Armalite AR .223 and my RSM 458 Lott.

The .44 mag was a new trade gun for me, a S&W 329PD Scandium that weighs in at 26oz. With factory 240 JHPs the torque and muzzle rise was nowhere near what my 6" FA 454 Casull was...the recoil was straight back but sharp and fast. A pretty cool gun for packing and not target shooting.

I had some mixed 458 Lott ammo kicking around (all handloads) of 350 Hornadys, 405 rems, 450 Xs and Hornady 500 SPs at full loading.

I haven't shot my Lott since last years squirrel shoots. Whenever I shoot my Lott I kick myself for not shooting it way more often. Too much fun! Big Grin

The 350s are pussycats...really. The 405s I shoot are my standard squirrel load (70gr RL-7) and I love this load. It lets you know you are dealing with power but very easy to shoot. The 450Xs were my try at a NA big game load but I never used them for anyting but varmints Frowner For busting rocks IMHO you can't beat a full house 500gr load. Now this is major FUN and you can see the effect they have over the lighter loads on those pesky gravel pit DG rocks. For some perverse/macho reason I love to split rocks with my Lott Eeker My 338 Lapua hits the rocks like a laser and is cool, but can't compare to the WHACK and impact the Lott has. Spectators like it as well clap

Merry Christmas to everyone, and to all have fun with the big bores.

John

There are those that do, those that dream, and those that only read about it and then post their "expertise" on AR!
