Overkill
I am thinking of selling my .460
I am thinking of selling my .460 Weatherby and then buy a .30-378 wby. Is it a good caliber for moose and bears? better than the .460?
Will the effect be better than with the .460 on moose?

Overkill--You are better off to keep the 460.And for moose,
elk, deer, woodchucks. etc load 350 gr Speer semi-spitzer bullets, they will shoot as flat as a 30 calber 180 gr.Abd
keeps you in big bore practice, in case you get to hunt game needing 500 grains..Ed.

Overkill I thought you were getting a 600 overkill now you are talking about getting a varmint rifle want is happing to you. Naw you better stay with your 460 for the lighter stuff.

Keep the 460. It will cut a hole clean through. With 30-378 you have about 30lb of blood shot meat.

OK,

If you do that you'll have to change your handle to something like "Somewhatexceedingnominalkill".

500grains
The 30-378 is a worthless caliber. It burns out barrels in 250 rounds and ordinary bullets will self destruct. The 460 is a far better round.

Intersting comment,I assume you have had plenty of experience with one so please pass on your experiences.

I have had no experience hunting Bears or Moose, they are a bit thin on the ground down this way BUT,

I have been lucky enough to cull a few cattle with both my 460 [500 Hornadys,SP]and a 30-378 [plus 378 & 416 WBY].I know what put them down the quickest and had the most visible knock down effect.

One big advantage of the 30-378 with the brake on is it recoils like a 25-06,you can hold the rifle like a varmint rifle and not have to HANG on to it like a 460,making shots off a rest easy and at no stage do you ever think about getting touched by a scope.

I still have the 460 'cuase its the "BIG Weatherby" but if the opportunity came along to do the same things again I would get another 30-378.

Enjoy your day,

Regards,

Charlie
