Thought it wouldn't happen, 300 yrd leaf on express sights
Scenario...
A friend and I were practicing for a bear hunt next month.
I was shooting my Lott with open express sights standing- free hand . The target were slowly rolling, less than 5 mph, bowling balls at 90 yards.
First shot, a few inches high....second shot, same ....sat down, locked in the sling around my arm, set the trigger this time and....hit high.
Looking for some excuse I eyed the sights suspiciously...not really expecting to find fault just an excuse.
guess what,.....that's right the damn 300 yard leaf was up.
Dropped it down and hit all of the next round
Sooooo....what I need is to secure the front sight leaves.
Should I try a reversible fix (locktight or something) or completely remove them?
Suggetions for either correction (they are factory cz three leaf sights)

new_guyIf you want the 300yd leaf out - The CZ sight leaves (is plural leafs or leaves?) are easy to remove.
There's a set-screw hidden under one of the fold-down leaves - remove it - push the sight out of the dovetail (may take a small hammer and a wooden block)>
On on the bottom of the sight block, there's a piece of spring steel held in with a screw.
Remove the screw from the bottom and the spring steel - that will leave the leaves "free moving."
Now use a small punch to push the pin out of the 300 yd leaf.
Pull the leaf out of the sight block.
Reverse the directions and reassemble.
PS - make sure your sight has a "witness mark" so that you can realign it properly... if it doesn't - make one before you remove the sight block from the dovetail.
If you want to simply keep it in place, put some epoxy under it and glue it down... you can release the expoxy (probably the bluing too) at a later date with heat from a torch .

SteveWhy not just use some electricians tape and tape it down with a couple of turns. That way you will still have it if you need to attempt a looooong shot.
Just a thought.

AtkinsonThe folding sight should not be a problem if they are tight and stay down..or you can put a little glass bed or glue on them if you don't intend to use them...The other option is to buy a one standing sight and tig up the base and cut to fit the existing dove tail...
I personally like a one standing and three down if all are sighted in at 50, 100, 200 and 300...and if they are tight to flip up...
