MARK H. YOUNGLoads for 458 WM with 350 TSX
Guys,
I'm thinking of taking my 458 on a moose hunt this year. I have my old date from the original 350 X bullet but was wondering what somebody else might be using these days to push the 350 TSX. The old 350 X put bloody big holes in a moose and I'm expecting the same or better from the 350 TSX.

.458 OnlyWhat .458 model are you using? Depending on action length and freebore it's possible to seat the 350 TSX to the bottom cannelure and crimp there. I did that in my CZ550 and loaded the 350 TSX for moose and bear. Shot a bear but not a moose.
Because that makes it pretty much the equal of a Lott, I used Lott data from the Barnes #3 for the 350-X Bullet. 80 grains of H4198 ignited by a WLRM primer. That gave a consistent 2750 fps with -MOA accuracy. The CZ had a 25" barrel. Like a .30-06 from a bullet about twice it's weight and 2.3X it's cross-sectional area.
Never noticed recoil or muzzle blast when I pulled the trigger on a bl. bear.

Thanks but I have mine on a 30-06 length action so I can't use your data. A 350 TSX at 2750 should be a real hammer on thin skinned game. My old load with the 350 X gave me 2550.

medvedHello Mark,
there is an article called bench topics from Mark Fairbanks. barnes bullets in the .458 winchester magnum.
there is not pushing as fast as you want but im pretty sure 2550 fps is still good enough ...
im trying that kind of bullet weight soon and will report my finding.

Dogleg https://www.loaddata.com/artic...opics%2079%20LR1.pdfThis one?
I loaded 350 grain TSXs over 69 grains of H4198, seated to the second groove. My 24 inch barrel put out 2600 plus. That wasn't even hot, but shot to the same
POI as the heavier loads at that charge. It was quite effective on buffalo while the speed lasted, and usable after that. .375 level recoil, as near as my calibrated shoulder could tell.

MARK H. YOUNGThanks guys! This is what I needed. Seems my old 350 X date would have worked nicely.

It's a pity this very good piece did not address the 450gr TSX which I use as my do-it-all-bullet for the venerable .458WM
