500Grains

Many thanks - look forward to seeing your pictures . I met Butch Searcy about 7 years ago in South Africa , and shot with a number of his rifles up to 577NE . They handle really well and are extremely accurate .

I have seen buffalo shot with a few 585 caliber guns including 585 Nyati , 577NE , & 585 Van Horn . All of them were shot within a distance of 30 yards , and shot placement in all instances was good . There were no gut , back leg , hoof , lower jaw etc. shots . Bullets used included Woodleigh , A-Square , TCCI Solids ,( Have used them for many years with flawless results ) , and South African manufactured Stewarts Bullets . Results again , while not as dramatic as in my first example , showed the same devastating results . Even , on one occasion , with a shot high through both lungs , the buffalo only went about 30 yards before going down .

The 458 Lott along with all the others with similar performance ( 450 Ackley , 450 Watts , 458 Express etc.)are extremely popular here due to cost factors and availablity of components . They all perform very well ( when properly applied ) and get the job done without much fuss . I still believe , however , that they will not consistently have the effect that the 585's have under all circumstances .

I do not believe that a buffalo shot with a 458 Lott at 12 paces paces with a solid would have sat down on his backside like a dog . I have seen similar shots with a 470 Capstick , 458 Winchester and a 450 Watts , and it did not happen . I am not saying that it won't happen - I just have not yet seen it happen .

Stick with TCCI Solids - Have used them in 458 , 510 and 585 calibers , and never had a failure .

P.S. I still feel that 2150fps in a 585 with a 750gh bullet is more than adequate . Even with this velocity , you sometimes end up killing the 600 year old leadwood tree behind the elephant or buffalo .

Elephant meat isn't bad , but its not wonderfull either . It has a coarse grain and a taste all of it's own . Try cooking it ( Backstraps or fillets cut into small cubes ) in a pot on a fire with buffalo marrow bones , fresh cream and a good red port , with carrots and potatoes .

Bruce initially made 300 cases which I have used for testing purposes , and many of which have gone to collectors . I probably only have 50 or so left .

He will be doing a run of a few thousand shortly , and as soon as they arrive will be able to start shipping them out . Usually about 6 to 10 days with Airmail to the USA .

Let me know how many you would like , and I will ask Bruce if he perhaps has a few left over from the first run that I could get to you .
