Win model 70 375 H and H

Is the current production of the Win model 70 safari express a controlled round feed gun?

Anyone that owns one in a 375 or 416 have any opinions on it?

Yes, controlled round feed, as it should be. I have the new one and am very pleased with it -- especially the fine trigger. Need to work up a load for it but my shooting range is packed with elk hunters sighting in before the Saturday opener here in southern Oregon ...

I just got one in 375. Yes on CRF. The sights are nice- NECG rear adjustable, and what looks like a Williams streamline front ramp and hood. It seems a lot of rifle for the money, although I have not yet shot it. I need to get Talley mounts to scope it, and will probably put on a fiber optic front sight, but otherwise it seems ready to go.

Check your local Sportsman Warehouse. Seen one in the Anchorage store last night for $1,095 out the door. Looked pretty nice. But still think the CZ is a better buy and $100 less.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

Snowwolfe: I've had the CZ as well. To me, the Winchester is the better buy for three reasons: slimmer and lighter than the CZ; bolt handle isn't buried in the stock; bolt is much smoother out of the box. I also prefer the new Winnie trigger, which is almost as good as the CZ when set. Don't get me wrong -- I have a great fondness for CZ rifles too.

I have both cz550 and Win M70 in 375 H&H. Both are great classic gun designs.

The M70 is better weight for a 375, but the CZ is better weight for 458, IMHO.

The M70 is better quality built and more reliable out of the box - not even close.

I have not shot a brand new M70, so this is based on my later generation control feed and some push feed M70s. I do believe the good reports on the new M70.

Even after having my CZ 375 stock recontoured I dumped it since it was still a 10.25 lb 375!

Thinking of converting a M70 to 375.

CDNN Investments had really good closeout prices on the Winchester guns in two different Safari Models. Earlier I purchased the Remington 798 Model in 375 and though I got a really great price, I wish I would have gotten the Winchester.

That one I am holding right there has been with me on every trip to Africa and will shoot less than 1" groups.

I would not take for it!!!

Ordered one, the new mod 70 safari express from the GunStop in Minnetonka, Mnwhich is two miles from my house, $1070.

Thinking of a Leupy 1.75-6X on it.

Good for you, DF. I think that's a great scope choice. I have a little old Weaver K 2.5 in line for mine, but would love to upgrade to the Leupold.

I have a new production Model 70 in .375 and I think very highly of it. Very accurate with iron sights but I may have to shave the cheek piece a bit for better fit. I mounted a Leupold 1.5 to 5 on warne QD rings. Have not shot it yet with the scope due to shoulder surgery and some issues with my reloader.

Head Trauma

I have a new production M70 375 H&H. It is very well made and very accurate. Has a excellent barrel, very little copper fouling, cleans up easily. I don't like the cheap-looking front sight ramp and replaced it with an NEC banded one, looks much better. The new triggers are great. Other than the front sight cosmetics issue, no complaints. Replacing the factory stock with a D'Arcy Echols synthetic.

I do not think you can go wrong with one. They will hold value very well. I am a CZ fan, because they fit me a little better, and I prefer the set trigger.
