376 Steyr Improved
Looks like the 376 Steyr was never meant to catch on big, like the 350 and 6.5 Remington Magnums of the 60's. However, in a rifle with a 24" barrel and possibly Ackley Improving it for a little more powder capacity and more effecient burn, this could be a good thing. I have a 30-06 that I want to rebuild eventually, and the 376 Steyr looks really tempting. Has anyone 'Improved' it yet? If so, please let me know if dies and reamers are kicking around for it.
I am currently rebuilding a Tikka into a 375-338 Taylor, should be a month or so before I get it back. Can not wait to start building loads for it. And another good reason to buy more reloading goodies....

The best way to improve it would be to run a 9.3x64 reamer into it.

Or turn the barrel back a bit and run a 375/300wsm reamer into it.

CampX,

I am like Jeffe, I have a .376 Steyr and think it works fine as it is. Why not give it a shot? [Wink]

I killed a huge eland with mine.

I have not heard of any improved designs, although the 17 deg 30 minute shoulder is like a magnet for the case improvers. I have though heard of a .308 built on the case.

The .376Steyr already does all the .375H&H from a 24 inch barrel does with a 3.1 COL. If you want more, get a .375RUM and be done with it.

Tho I do wish Steyr had simply hijacked the 9.3x64 and brought it over here as the .366Steyr.

I'd check with Z-Hat, they may know of such a wildcat. They have the "416-376 improved", called the 416 Aagaard. ~~~Suluuq

I've e-mailed Z-Hat about the 416 Aagaard twice and gotten zero response. Can anyone shake loose from them the status of that project?
