AfrikaanderRemington 416 RM M700 Safari - Experiences?
Dont want to start another never ending "CRF vs PF" discussion, nor any "damned remington rifles" post ... but just want to know true first hand experiences as objetive as possible ...
OK, here it goes :
Who has ever hunted any DG using Remingtons Model 700 Safari (Custom, KS)in .416 Rem Mag ??? How would you describe its performance ??
And my worst concern:
What makes Remingtons custom rifles different from others remington models - and supposedly better ..(apart from their price !!) ?
Remingtons website isnt very illustrative in this mattter

...
By the way, I posted the same question in Africa Big Game Forum

TwinnI have a rem 700 safari, 416 rem mag, I think the finish of the metal is better then the normal 700. I bought this gun the last spring so I have only used it a couple of times, i have tried this gun on roe deer and moose with succes.
I cant say that I have got any trouble accept that i had to make a new bedding in the stock.

<Timberghost>I have one that was tuned and rebarreled to .450 Ackley by Brown Precision. It has always been exceptionally accurate. I have had extraction problems with hotter loads that I feel would not have been such a problem with CRF. I think the stock, while comfortable and nice finish, is too light and soft on the inside. I had mine full length bedded in devcon steel so that the recoil lug and barrel lug had something to work with. I ended up switching to a laminated stock with mercury supressors and devcon to add weight. This might not be a problem in .416 Remington. I have never shot one, so I can't speak to its recoil.
In my humble opinion, I would buy a Winchester Safari Express for a lot less money than the Custom KS Remington and have a much better DGR in any caliber. I own both and have spent a small fortune trying to make the Remington comfortable and reliable, while only mounting a Ziess on the Winchester and shooting it sub-MOA.
I am not one of the experts on CRF/PF and could not argue either side respectably. I am just stating my experience.
