possible to get 600 ok brass and reloading dies?
It seems like the only way for me to get a 600 ok here in sweden is to build it here.
So my questions is were in US to buy reloading dies and cases for it? And how to get them to sweden?
There is a gunsmith here in sweden that has build at least one. 585 nyati that works so why not 600 ok If it is easier done that a .585?

Wayne at AHR

AHR ammo and brass

and Robgunbuilder (creator of 600OK and a regular here) are the two people I'd ask about brass.
Wayne can probably also provide dies but so will CH4

I have already cheked with Wayne at AHR. He only sell brass and dies to them who also buy the rifle from him.

I have brass. You can buy dies from CH4D. The issue is how to get the brass to Sweden. I have no idea what are the legal requirements these days and I strictly follow the law. Wayne probably does though. -Rob

Last time I asked Wayne, he said he only sells brass with rifles he has built as it has become extremely difficult to obtain.

My conversations with Captech (company that bought Jamison) about purchasing 600 OK brass have not been encouraging.

Maybe its time for another group purchase. I'd be interested in 200 cases. The nice lady at Captech said the blanks are next to impossible to obtain in quantities less than 1000. I wonder what other ctg is made from said blanks.

Maybe to much trouble with the bigger bores here in sweden.
Maybe the best thing would be a .500 Jeffery now when swedish norma makes cases for it.. Always a step up in diameter and Power over my old .460 Wby Wink

I'd be willing to buy 500 cases.-Rob

Overkill from Sweden, talk to Horneber in Germany. We just built and exported a 600 OK for a customer in Austria and he was able to get brass from Horneber.

True, we only sell brass with the 600 OK rifles we build due to the limited supply at the moment. CH4D has the dies.

I would be willing to buy a hundred. I would even increase that number if it helped close a deal.

I'll bet we could get Horneber to do a 1000 case run for us. Sounds like we have enough folks for that!-Rob

There are two problems to be aware of when using Horneber for 600 OK brass. First are his terms; pay full up front then wait forever for your brass. The other and more important one is that the belt location on the Horneber is different than on the Jamison resulting in different headspace dimensions. The Jamison brass will chamber in a rifle chambered for the Horneber brass but will have excess headspace. The Horneber brass will not chamber in a Jamison chamber. Also the rim is thicker on the Jamison than on the Horneber. There are not many of the older 600's still chambered for the Horneber any more; your's Rob and a couple others. I've set the barrels back on many of the original 600's to accept the Jamison brass. So, you guys with rifles built by me or chambered by another gunsmith to the Jamison brass will not be able to use the Horneber brass.

I will contact Captech and find out the minimum order.

I am also curious as to how many different headstamps are out there for 600OK brass.

After reading Wayne's post I went to check my brass. My rifle is chambered for Jamison brass. I recently purchased a pile of cases from the classifieds here and didn't know there were different cases out there. Sure enough, the stuff I just bought has the thicker belt and thinner rim and will not chamber in my rifle. Damn!

Anyone want to trade some JI for Horneber?

drewhwnrytnt,
There are only two versions of 600 OK brass; Horneber and Jamison. I don't know the history of how the two diverged in their specifications as it happened before I started working with the 600 OK about 10 years ago. I've only chambered for the Jamison brass, except for the fellow we just built for in Austria who had Horneber brass on hand and he is aware of the differences.

If you order brass do it from Captech as we don't need any more Horneber brass floating around out there. That stuff needs to get pulled from the market or bought up by the three or four guys who still have rifles chambered for it. I have a bunch of it but it is staying here or I'll give it to Rob if he wants it.

I just got off the phone with Captech.

They adamantly refused to give me a quote.

The only thing I got from them is," If we get enough interest, we will do a run. We'll put you on the list and let you know." My guess is we have enough interest for at least 1000. The "nice" lady that answered the phone says it would have to be a lot more than that, but again refused to provide a quote.

Bitterroot- Hi and good point! I know for a fact that there are quite a few (50 maybe more)? .600oks built by me and other smiths out there that were chambered with my reamer for Horneber brass. Most folks have 50 to 100 cases that seem to last forever. Ed Plummer ( original AHR) used to borrow my reamer for his AHR rifles until he got his own made. Ed eventually got Jamison to make him brass and that's when the dimensions diverged. When exactly that was, I don't remember and I don't know why those dimensions were changed as the original Horneber brass is extremely high quality and poses no issues in any of the rifles built for it. Over the years guys have talked me out of my stash and I'd like to replenish it or rechamber if Captech brass is a reality and not a pipe dream. Dieter is at least reliable.-Rob

Does anyone know if there is a legal method to ship brass to Sweden?

I have 63 Horneber cases I am unable to use and will ship them If I can do so legally.

You must go through an exporter to ship cases out of the country. $$$

Ah-Here goes- I can fix the belt length on the Horneber cases

to fit in Jamison spec chambers, on my case spinner lathe.

Maybe silly for me to help competing cartridge, but

I'll help big bore guys... Ed

I thought about that Ed, but then we'd have three different cases out there. Jamison, Original Horneber, and then modified Horneber. There is enough possibility for confusion out there already.

I could stamp modified Horneber cases with a J on the head.
And put the word out so everyone knows.

For guys to try to send less than 3-400 Horneber cases to the EU
to help someone there out, the cost of export is 2-3 times what cases
cost. Which is why if someone gets 585 stuff from us we want to
ship cases, barrel and die package to be of enough value
for what exporting cost.

I figured with our case lathe, maybe help drewhenry out with his case supply;
And maybe others by redoing belts. Unless I could talk them into changing
to our 585, Haha, Ed

I'd buy 200 Jamison - if I could find someone to build a 600OK on my SS MRC PH action.

Well I'd also be willing to turn the belts a few thousands of of Horneber brass so it would work in a Jamison barrel. I've had really good luck with Horneber brass and always thought Jamison was sketchy. We all should really return to my original case design though! It's still working and you can still get brass from Horneber./Rob

I believe brass falls under ITAR. If I remember correctly this is what did the original Jamison in. I almost became an illegal international arms trafficer a year ago when a friend's son in Britain asked me for one .505 Gibbs brass case; craziness if you ask me.

I have a buddy that is a dealer for Captech. I told him our plight and asked if he could make an inquiry.

Kathy @ Captech said for a 100,000 or 200,000 piece order, they might consider tooling up for production.

Apparently they are having problems keeping up with demand for something else.

That is all I know. Dieter here we come.
