please can u anyone give me some options of recoil pads that i can put on my 458, i have tried the slip on kind and dont fancy them much. I want to add about an inch at least in length to make the rifle fit real snug.

Take a look at the ones New England Custom Guns offers. They can be installed fairly easy by individual and can be had in either red or black I believe. A steel rail is attached to butt of rifle, pad has internal groove which slides over the rail giving neat fit between the rear of pad and butt. Top edge is somewhat rounded to not snag as easy when mounting gun. Aside from these features, they seem to help a good deal on the recoil. Various sizes/lengths/thickness available. They are a high quality item and really not that pricey either.

56hawkHas anyone tested the Limbsaver and the Pachmayer F990 back to back? I was going to go with the Limbsaver on my 600 Overkill, but I'm open to suggestions.

mad_jack02Kickeze, or Limbsaver, I just installed a linbsaver for a guy over the weekend and it was a nice pad, I myself prefer Kickeze and put a 1 3/8 kickeze on my 416 and it tames it down very nice.

Rob, does the F990 come with leather or is that something that has to be done to it. Also, where could I get one, in leather to fit my Merkel 140?
Thanks,
Todd

RobgunbuilderYou can do it yourself. Mount the F990 pad on the stock. Take some thin wet leather ( colored to match your stock) pull and shape it to fit over the pad. Use some wood blocks to work out any wrinkles. Once shaped, tie in place and let the leather dry, then cut the excess leather off. I then use a little slow setting epoxy to hold the leather to the pad. If you have access to a good leather sewing machine, run a row of stiches around the rim of the pad cover for a real nice touch. It comes out great!-Rob
