I am in ATL today and wondering if there are any nice guns stores where I can fondle big bores and doubles?

Just got back from Chucks. I wouldn't buy shit from them if it was free! They had very little big bore stuff in stock, the place was empty and yet the guy still couldn't muster more than a grunt regarding a merkel double rifle- I think the gist was they don't have any!

I have never been able to find much in big bores in any Atlanta store. Especially hard for me since I shoot left handed. Bought all mine online.

Hope this is timely. The Gun Room deals in used/antique; probably your best bet for doubles, etc. 770-263-9122. It's located between Peachtree Corners and Dunwoody on Spalding Drive at Holcomb Bridge Road, northeast corner. It's in a little shopping center between the bowling alley and the Chevron station on the corner of Holcomb Bridge. The sign says TGR.

That's too bad about Chucks. It used to be a classy place in the 70s, when I lived in Hotlanta. I was never really able to afford anything he had back then, having a fresh wife and mortgage to support, but he was polite to me, and let me drool on some of his rifles, especially a FN commercial in 7x57.

Yesterday I was in Atlanta for the day. It was about 38 degrees and blowing rain in sheets at 25 mph. I had to walk from the Fulton County Courthouse to MARTA at Five Points to get back to ATL. It sucked.

I never saw a woman worth looking at twice and it sure as heck wasn't warm.

You can have Atlanta. Move it to New Jersey, please.

JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

That's because there have been too many people from the metro NYC area relocate to Atlanta. Big Grin

Yup, and they brought paved roads, window screens, and toilet paper with them. Big Grin

When I was there for the '96 Olympics and again in 2000, most of the transplants seemed to be from Chicago, Detroit, the Carolinas, and Boston.

Maybe that explains it. Wink Wink

My big beef with Atlanta has always been:
How the hell many roads can you name Peachtree?!?!

Glenn, aren't all the roads named Peachtree?

Hotlanta referrs to the summer weather and the women, in the days when I lived there.

Now-a-days, when I go South, I catch the quick shuttle at the airport and head further South to where some of the roads are still dirt, the peach trees are real, the deer run amuck, turkeys gobble and chirp, hogs snort, coyotes yodle and bark, catfish is fried, and everyone talks funny, slow and laughs a lot - the habitat of the good ole boys and magnolia trees, and where the consensus of opinion and general sentiment is phuck NY. I see no reason to linger in Atlanta. Big Grin

That's why I didn't give driving directions to get to TRG:
... take P'tree Industrial past P'tree Corners Circle to where P'tree Industrial forks; the left fork is P'tree Parkway....

Actually, there's a Jones Bridge Road. And a Jones Bridge Circle; along with East Jones Bridge and West Jones Bridge. I think there's a Jones Mill down the street somewhere.

There are a number of other Road sequences, as well as a large number of Roads named something Ferry. I guess that always a contingency when there's a river in the neighborhood. Which brings to mind the number of streets named Chattahoochee.

The Carters and Kings are much fewer in number. If you're looking for something to take home to New Jersey, ....
