Uncle Alvahaction for 257 Roberts
I would appreciate opinions on suitable Mauser actions for the 257 Roberts. Availability and price should weigh in decision! Thanks!

TGetzenUncle Alvah,
The Bob is based on a standard Mauser case,_x57, just necked down. So, any Mauser 98 action designed for an 8x57 or 7x57 should work fine. This would include large ring, small ring, standard length, and intermediate length. You could even use a 96 action, as the 257 is one of a handful of cartridges suitable for that action.
An M-48 is slightly shorter than a standard 98, and would work fine. They are very common, and cheap. Most would require a bit of work with a file and stone to remove tool marks.

Bob MehaffeyI'm having one done now on a 1936 model 98 Mexican Mauser. The Mexican 98 1910, 1936, and 1954, are all similiar and the bolts are interchangable. They are intermediate length small ring and make a lovely trim rifle in calibers like 257 Roberts, 7 X 57, etc. I'm going to try one in 376 Steyr next which has already been done by jeffeoso.
