Different type sights on a Big Bore?
Gents,
Anyone tried the Holo or Red Dot type sights on a big bore?
Seems the wide field of view would be ideal for close in shooting.
Just curious.

sharps54I had a Leupold Gilmore on a Model 70 rebarreled to 458 Lott for a little while. I only shot it on the range but it seemed to hold up well with "rapid fire" (firing as fast as I could aquire the dot offhand at 25 yds). I ended up putting the original 375 barrel back on as I didn't like the contour of the 458 Lott barrel but the sight seemed to work ok. For what it is worth I have a Swavo ph 1.25-4X on my current heavy, a Model 70 in .416 Remington.

Jason,
Using the Leupold dot, were you able to see the iron sights thru the scope?
BTW, I will also be putting some sort of dot system on a Lott.

sharps54I didn't have front sight on the Lott (one of the things I didn't like) but I could see the end of the barrel, so I guess the answer is yes. I can see the front sight of my .416 when my PH is on 1.25X as well but it doesn't bother me. I am working on putting together a "pig carbine" in a wildcat .475 caliber and will probably put a dot on it. I think I will try a Reflex sight this time. I like the idea of no batteries and know they can take the recoil.

GanyanaUse a surefire red dot on both my 9,3 and my back up revolver. Have discovered I cannot see the sights of the revolver at night

and that red dot is faster than even a ghost ring sight

sharps54I haven't looked at Leupold's 30mm 1.5-5 circle dot scope in person but it should also be great at 1.5 power. I may pick up one of them. Their CQ/T scope with the same reticle works well on ARs but is bulky and ugly, not to mention would sit too high on a traditional rifle.
