Standing Bench Pics and Plans
I built this a couple years ago to help me sort out my 450 NE DR. From lurking a bit, it looks like this might also be useful for helping recoil while proving a steady rest on large bore bolt guns for certain shooters.

Looks great, but I just put two range seats atop a bench and shoot upright from directly behind.

Here is Mr. Echols solution. I like his way better.

Nice benches. Whenever I shoot at my range I feel like I'm visiting a kindergarten class. Hate it.

It sure does make a difference when your shooting the big boys to shoot them off your hindquarters with a good standing bench rest or just off hand, you get about half the "felt recoil", and felt recoil is what makes flinches.

I really struggled to find plans, but was finally able to build one of these stand up benches two years ago. It looks virtually identical, except for using a laminated top. Use it for shooting my 470 Nitro and it REALLY helps the recoil. Being portable, I can take it to the range, scoot off to the assigned bench at one end of the range, and then enjoy it.

Well done!

I too was surprised how much more comfortable it made shooting, while still be stable enough for load development.

Thank you for posting the plans.

I tend to practice from the sitting position, of all things.

Just noticing how these gents using the standing benches don't seem to be using hearing protection.

Unless they have the internal ear protection ---
How painful when in the throw of deep pre shot concentration you realize you forgot to put the
muffs back on.
Funny that you don't seem to hear the blast when shooting at live game

I have been thinking about building one for a while that is height adjustable for my friends of different heights.
60" (APPROX) table top height for a six foot shooter?

Mr. Echols is probably deaf like many gunner his age, if that is him in the picture, and the other guy is either just taking a picture or making a huge mistake. Noise causes far more "flinch" than shoulder recoil. And the damage is far more permanent. I am suffering hearing loss but not from guns, but from other sources of noise. However I save what i have with plugs and muffs. "Dead behind the gun equals Dead in front of the gun." I might be the creator of that phrase. If so; your welcome.
