Arctic Gun.45 Colt as a hunting round
I've got a couple .45 colt pistols and I would like to try something new with the ammunition. Thinking of getting a Uberti lever action in .45. How is it as a hunting round? Can it drop deer sized game (caribou) under 100 yards?

500grainsYup, just like a 44 magnum. Fine for 100 yard kills on deer, just hit them in the heart or lungs.

fredj338I'm running 300ge LFP @ 1000fps from my RBH for sub 50yd deer rounds. Running them through a rifle @ 1200fps or so would only make them better out to

100yds. Penetration is amazing.

What twist barrel gets this amazing penetration?

vapodogAt one time I had a pair of 45 colt SAA clones from fie....very pretty guns but certainly not up to hi pressure loads.
I also had a M-92 (japan made) winchester in 45 colt that could have acted like a 44 magnum....but the chances of getting the ammo mixed up just prevented me from loading for the rifle.
I sold all three guns and got 44 mags to replace them.....now I'm set with powerful guns to kill deer.......
Be your own judge....just don't let the 40,000 PSI ammo fall into the wrong hands!

Idaho SharpshooterI have what I think is the perfect 45LC hunting revolver...a 4" factory Anaconda. I shoot the Laser-Cast 300gr bullets at about 1120fps for a heavy carry/hunting load. There are waaaay too many friggin' bears where I fly fish

prof242I've been hunting with a Ruger Blackhawk in .45 Colt since they brought them out with the extra cylinder for .45acp (about 1970). The revolver has gone through a steady diet of Hornady 250gr JHPs at 1200fps and 260gr cast SWCs with gaschecks at 1100fps. I would have to estimate the number of rounds at well over 2,000. Like you, I've been thinking about getting a carbine in .45 Colt and may just have to do it. My grandchildren LOVE to shoot low velocity rounds through a T/C contender carbine in this cartridge. At 25yds, they can definitely see the bullet hole.

I had a 6" .45 Colt Anaconda that I foolishly sold. It was an amazingly accurate pistol. I personally think the Anacondas are the ultimate DA .44 Mag or.45 Colt. The 4' Anacondas in .45 Colt are pretty rare and sell for pretty good $$.
As far as hunting. The .45 Colt with Ruger class loads kills every bit as well the .44 Mag. I shoot mainly 255gr SWCs at 1,100- 1,2000 fps but have shot 325gr Keiths quite a bit as well. The heavier bullets make for pretty stout loads.
