AS far as power is concerned, I doubt there is a real discerable difference. The Ackley has a shoulder and a parrell neck which will allow you to use cast bullets for practice much easier. These are both excellent cartridges and actually represent the best of the DGR rounds IMHO.-Rob

The Lott is becoming standardized and properly headstamped brass is available.

Many experienced people don't recomend to use 458 win in the Lott, maybe only in case of emergency but not as a common thing.
Not Safe.

Safety is not the issue. I have fired 458 Win's in a Lott chamber. The problem is if many, many rounds of 458 Win are fired in the Lott chamber you will get chamber erosion ahead of the neck of the 458 Win case, this may lead to sticky extraction with the Lott cases. And if you do not do a good job of cleaning after firing the 458 Win cartridges, you will have a buildup that may prevent a Lott from being chambered. After all, the Lott chamber was designed to fire 458 Win safely.

Go with the Lott there is factory ammunition avaliable. The Ackley and the Lott are almost ballistic twins.

Get the Lott and help bring the component prices down for the rest of us punch drunk Lott owners.

I'm another lott fan. The advantage as already noted is using win mag ammon in a pinch, having factory ammo available, and not from a small shop but from Hornady, and properly headstamped brass is easily available. There are also factory rifles available in the lott.

One can argue the merrits of a straight neck and the brief shoulder on the ackley, but the lott has become the std round, and that has allot of merrit. Balistically the ackley has a paper advantage of 50 fps. Honestly if the lott doesn't seem to have enough case capicity for you, then the answer is the 450 Dakot or 458 Rigby.
