Scout Scope mount????
I have seen the scout rifles with the scope mounted out on the barrel further. Other than dot sight experience on pistol, I don't have a pistol scope with enough eye relief. How well does this setup work for moving shots. Is it preferred over conventional scopes? Thanks

It is real great on heavy recoiling rifles.Ed.

I have two guns set up with scout scopes and it really is fast and works well! I used on a local sniper course and shot a 194 out of a 200 possible. On a heavy recoiling Big Bore, I think its a reasonable approach.-Rob

That would be the ticket. I just shot a friends .416 Taylor this weekend and hes has it scoped with a simmons variable. The gun kissed all of us atleast once, and really got the guy who had to shoot it prone. A scout scope would have been the way to go.

I have a scout on a vz24 with a parker-hale .308 heavy barrel on a weaver rail I made my self. It wears a NcStar 2-7x, a good enough $100 scope. At 2 power shots are quick, but if you settle in on the stock and crank the power up you do not even notice the scope is several inches away. Unless the sun is behind you in that perfect spot to come over your sholder and reflect off the ocular lens. I also have a .35 whelen that I built that will be getting a scout scope/mounts.

DemoSam,

I have spent a lot of time since '98 with scout-scope configured rifles, including a pair of .308s (Steyr Scout and a Tikka Battue configured to scout), a .416 Rem and a .450 Ackley. As of today none of my hunting rifles has a forward-mounted scout scope.

I wrote a review for Sniper Country of the Scout Concept in '99.

My opinion is a low-power variable scope mounted over the action is a better sight arrangement for a hunting rifle.

I put scout scopes on a couple of miltary rifles a 03 and 95 in 7x57 it was the best and cheapest way of puting scopes on them. I used a ashly mounting system. They are fast and work just fine.

I perfer a scope mounted over the reciver myself. I have leupold scout scopes on them.
