I just watched the episode of "Tracks Across Africa" yesterday and saw that CB's girlfriend used a 450-400 in a Ruger No.1 to down her buffalo. This rifle just may be CB's own rifle but it seems that with the publicity of the successful use of the #1 and cartridge on the air by a much publisized writer seems to make the #1 and the cartridge a definite combo to come. No doubt, Ruger is gearing up, if they haven't done so already. Obviously, this may be a limited market for the combo, but with all the #1 shooters out there, it should be a hot item.

jstevensIf I can ever justify a double rifle, it will be a .4500-400. It is just more useful than the more specialized big bores. I would definitely be a buyer for one of the no. 1's.

jetdrvrWonder how CB feels about changing from top of the line Dakotas to Rugers?
What CB thinks and writes about Dakotas or Rugers would depend upon who was paying for the article.

dsitemanHello,
I thought I read somewhere that "top line Dakota...." went busted?? Am I wrong on that??
Let's see now, proprietary cartridges, average price of bolt rifle in the thousands, extremely limited market available, and they went busted?? Who'd "thunk it...??"

475GuyDakota was bought out a while ago. The company was run down into the ground with bad decisions and they got away from making only guns that made the grade.

Atkinson475,
Unfortunatly your right, I either have a room full of guns or a pen full of horses, it is a delima I have to admit...
howsomever, hoss trad'en is more lucrative that gun trad'en it seems to me...and therein lies the break down, I never count the cost of feed, vet bills, etc. so its a downhill haul...
But I have learned to eat roadkilled opossom, and now and then a deer, so all is well on this end, other than mother is wearing gunny sack drawers and doing the neighbors wash and ironing. All is well.

Got any pictures?

Craig, changed his mind on single shots for DG. On a couple of his books he writes that he tried it once and won't do so again, but I guess the way they were hunting with two guns for backup, it's not an issue for him. jorge
