Thomas JonesMarlin 45/70 in the field !
Took my 1895 malin 45/70 on an Elk hunt !
Great choice ! I had my whelen and my .338 win too, but I found myself reaching for the marlin most of all. There were no freakin elk this year, I saw 1 taken out of about 50 to 100 hunters in our part of the Unit, But I sure liked carying the marlin, I have a vari X 2 1X4 power scope on it , in Quick detachable mounts ,
With my load , 350 grain hornady flat base ,
I figure it is a 200 yard rifle. I carried it with the sling wrapped around my left arm and constantly practiced bringing it to my shoulder and sighting quickly on different objects showed me its a quick handling rifle and just for fun I took my laser along and there was not much concern about the posibility of a shot that might prove out of range...tj3006

GeorgeS'Quick handling' is the quality I hear most often about lever-actions.
