Browning Stainless Stalker in .375
Hi all! This is my first post on this forum, and I've got a question regarding velocities I can expect from a Stainless Stalker I bought a month or so ago. When I first got it home, I took it apart to clean it, and after removing the BOSS, I noticed that the barrel looked kind of short for 24". I got out a tape measure, and found that the actual barrel was only 21" long. Does anyone have this rifle or any chrongraph readings for this barrel length?

I own two of these rifles, one with boss and the other with the 26" barrel, I have chronographed both and I do not recall a large difference in velocities. Most experts say 20 fps per inch but it doesn't amount to much but sure does cut down on recoil.
It makes a nasty brush gun with the Boss removed

Thanks for the information. I was considering selling it, and getting the one with the 26" barrel and having the BOSS installed on it, but if the difference isn't that much, I just might keep it. I've toyed with the idea of shooting it without the BOSS just to compare recoil, but I think I'd regret it.

Here areome chrono on the Boss Barrel
again temp about 70 degree
300 grain Hornady RN 69 grains 4064 Book states approx 2500fps
chrono average 2490fps
270 Hornady SP 71.5 grn 4064
averg 2750fps
250 speer sbt 78.8 grns 4350 Book states approx 2700 fps
chrono 2740

26"
Horn 270 sp 71.7 H 4896 5 shots 2667 to 2702
270 Failsafe 71.7 H4895 3 shot 2661 to 2675

I have not shot the same loads through both guns but the loads are similar and I don't see a big difference although I am told there should be a noticable difference

Thanks for the chronograph readings and the quick reply. That does make me feel better. Those are some of the same bullets that I was using too, along with the IMR4064.
