Roman BGHCZ vs. CZ?
Hi all! What is the difference between CZ 550 Magnum
http://www.czub.cz/index.php?p=32&idp=3&ids=11&lang=en and CZ 550 Safariclassics
http://www.safariclassics.com/ ?

DGR ShooterThe Safari Classics are basically a custom shop version of the 550 magnum. They feature upgraded wood, crossbolts, and a barrel band among other options.
Chamberings are also different. The 550 magnum is available in 375 H&H, 416 Rigby, and 458 Win Mag (the 458 Lott is also available in the American version). The Safari Classic is offered in 300 H&H, 338 Win Mag, 338 Lapua, 404 Jeffery, 416 Rem, 450 Rigby, 505 Gibbs, and 500 Jeffery.

I confirm everything DGR says.
Having handled both versions myself, I can say that you will notice a difference between the two, with the Safari Classics, the wood is finished better, the actions are worked over to be smoother, etc.
I cannot say that you will not have to do more work on the Safari Classic to get it to where you want it in terms of looks and performance...
The outfit here in the US, American Hunting Rifles, which has been mentioned in this forum before, does an apparently complete and satisfactory re-work of the CZ to get it to Safari ready conditions.

If it requires "so much work" to get it ready for safari conditions, why own it in the first place? Seems to me it would be "cheaper" to buy a higher quality and better finished gun in the first place. I have looked at the CZ and they appeared very rough and loosely built. Just spend an extra $500 to $750 and get something better built....
Please do not be offended as I am not criticising anyone's choice of a gun.

There's a certain logic to that, and I won't disagree. My CZ .375 has made three trips to the gunsmith to the tune of around $300 something, and I'm not sure I'm done yet. So for a few dollars more, I could have had an RSM probably ready to go out of the box. But, I liked the feel of the CZ and ......

Roman BGH404WJJeffery, unfortunately we don't have such gunsmiths in Moscow.

Difference in price is 2000 USD for CZ 550 Magnum and 6000 USD for CZ 550 Safariclassics. Is it worth?

butchlocin a lott - what is the use of the set trigger?? i love them in a target situation, but i'm sorry but i can't imagine myself facing an angry DGA and setting a trigger
Hi Roman,
Can your local importer ship the gun to AHR (www.hunting-rifles.com) for an upgrade before bringng it in country? Ed offers 3 different upgrades for a lot less than the $4000.00 differance you are quoted. You might also see if AHR could sell and import a rifle?
I am going to be in Moscow on Monday. Is it still bear season? How hard is it to get a permit? I'll be there for 3 or 4 weeks, don't know if I will have enough time off to do anything but was just wondering?

chuck375If you have a good gunsmith nearby I would buy the cheaper version. CZ is dual crossbolting the basic version in the heavier calibers now. Your gunsmith can glass bed it, put an extra recoil lug on it, and do a nice action job. All of that should be pretty cheap and some of it you would have to do to the classic as well. The basic CZ walnut stocks tend to be very nice.

Chuck
