Bailey Bradshaw450/400 3" load variations
Curious as to why there are only 400gr loads commonly used for this cartridge?
For comparison, the 45-70 has more loads published than I can count in bullet weights from 250gr to 510gr.
Is there somthing about the 450/400 that I am ignorant to?

analog_peninsulaIt's a double rifle cartridge. As such, the vast majority of rifles are factory zeroed for a specific load. Any variation will render factory ammo useless to the majority of the buying market.

Mostly 400gr was the only bullet weight available and as previous poster said,
it was a double rifle cartridge so the guns were regulated to a specific bullet weight and load. At least 2 loads existed, 55gr and 60gr (the lighter load being the Tropical load).
