Andy#3 That is a great video. I have watched it a few times. I am 7 years behind your dad. The Video is very encouraging. Thanks for posting. Brian

Brian CanadaMy son and I were reviewing some recent video footage of me shooting my big bores.
First was a shot on a cape buffalo, off hand. I was really fired up and my son said it looked like I was shooting a 30-06!
Next video was of me on the same hunt, later, same day, shooting off the sticks at a paper target to check the sights in my 50-110 Winchester. ( Loaded hot, but it still has about half the recoil of the .577NE. About like a 458 Win Mag.) Well, it looks like it nearly knocked me out from underneath my hat. I had to take step backwards to keep my balance. My son laughed at me and said it looked like I was shooting a .600 OverKill! What a pussy!
Recoil is funny. Like boxing, it helps to be in the right frame of mind. Brian

AtkinsonYes sir, what Rob gun builder, at 84 I also dread carrying a gun that's heavy more than I worry about recoil..and I noticed when in Africa that I had trouble walking and tought I had a crippled leg, turns out I have some kind of a disease that sounds like "monopoly" but can't remember the correct name, but the nerves in your legs quit working..Im good for maybe 3 miles, but its not curable and gets worth Im told, but I try to push my walking and it seems to be working a little..
To all you nay sayers, just keep in mind to toss your testosterone pride to the 4 winds and use a removable muzzle brake, it will make a big difference as you age.

There are two obvious problems with the question.
First, every person does not handle recoil the same no matter what the age.
The second issue is fitness. Some stay fit as they age. Personally, I exercise two hours a day. At the tender age of 62, I am lifting more weights than I ever have.
Is there a certain age? No!
I totally agree! I'm 74 yrs old and I am stronger than when I was 20 yrs. old! I keep Fit!
When I was 20 yrs. old and got an erection I could not bend it ! NOW I CAN !!!

Don'r blame it on the gun.
I was in camp once when an American hunter died while on safari.
He had a 416 Rigby.
He was an alcoholic in his younger days, and his liver was seriously damaged.
He had heart problems too, as he could hardly walk to the swimming pool 50 yards away from his hut without stopping to rest.
Well Saeed, he died doing what he liked! That seems like he liked to hunt Africa, drink alcohol. I say he went out in a perfect place for hunter!

AtkinsonFor you youngersters in great shape in your 70, mother nature will start kicking your cocky ass in a few years..Im 84 and still hunt and fish, but I can't stay in shape like I used too and Im in better shape than anyone I know at near my age, but it ain't all that good, and getting worse, being in shape doesn't work forever, toughness is the Custers last stand.
