Lawdog_GaryThe big game double-barrel repeating rifle????
A member of our gun club showed up at the meeting last night with order conformation for his new big bore. A .450 Rigby in a double-barrel bolt action rifle from Fuchs in Austria. I know that I live way back in the boondocks and I work way to much BUT I never heard of such a thing until last night. Six shots, four in a box magazine??? Does this thing REALLY WORK? How long have they made this type of rifle? Lawdog
They were originated by Joseph Szechi (sp?) about 10 odd years ago, maybe longer back. There was an article about them in one of the large anual gun mag/books, I have it at home and will need to look it up.
I believe the commercial ones have been on the market for a few years.
As I recall the consensus, or rather condemnation is that they give up the fine fit and swing of a double due to their bulk, and are heavier and bulkier to opperate then a magazine rifle. Irregardless of the high cost, I doubt they will ever become terribly popular.
Paul,
I have seen articles and posts of them surface over the years also but never got round to asking what that cost is.
Do you have a ballpark figure?
Karl.

GrandpasezJoe Szecsei developed it in Windsor, Canada.
I have brochure and talked to him about it, before
he found the Austrian Co to make it.They are ok
for up to 50 cal cartridges in my opinion(Not
BMG), because someone dismantled one with a real big bore, a 600 or 700 wildcat I understand, that the cartridge failed on.Be perfect for a Lott. Ed.
Abomination.

500grainsKarl, try this link:
http://www.jagdwaffe.comKarl
have been shooting the 416/505 since Feb last year. I shot about 150 rounds through it so far, still has to go back to the gunsmith to be finished; blueing, open sights, directional brake(have normal brake already), fix feeding- hasn't been altered since it was a Rigby.
Still waiting for Hornerber brass
so far I have got
1 fox
13 rabbits
1 hog deer
4 emu
40 plus kangaroos
1 wombat
The last 3 species were done under a permit
Thanks 500.
Some of Fuchs firearms on that site look okay and some look Fuched
For that sort of money I would buy a house on the range, hire a live in shotgunning coach, buy 2 cheap double rifles and 5000 cartridges and spend a year becoming the fastest instinctive DB rifle shooter in the world.
And then go hunting.
416,
Which smith did your rifle?
Karl.

AtkinsonThe really big bores are just too heavy to carry in hot weather all day long on an elephant track, at least for this old man...
I fear most do not take this into consideration prior to their first hunt, but we all live and learn...it would be so much easier to just listen, but then I had to learn most things the hardway too.
